The architect Denis Sloan Engineers Peter TERRELL Claude DELALANDE
proposes a new patented construction concept—the polycentric tower. This makes total devastation impossible and enhances both the rapid evacuation of persons and the massive intervention of emergency workers thanks to the gridded, centrifugal design of circulation.
The building consists of a powerful visible peripheral structure with large grids framing independent blocks of buildings.
The whole is comparable to a number of linked towers set around a large central area. Very stable but tall nevertheless, the structure consists of several pillars and the related platforms.
To achieve the floor areas of the
The configuration consisting of pillars combined with platforms forming the equivalent of bridge decking provides the greatest possible strength when exposed to all types of aggression (earthquakes, fire, etc.).
Each pillar contains numerous lifts (elevators) and broad staircases. The pillars also house essential networks and fluids systems.
The platforms form a horizontal link between all vertical circulation routes and house reception premises and large safety/fire relay units.
Polycentric towers respond to current requirements with regard to safety and well-being and do not involve any technical construction difficulties.
